The Blue Narwhal PDF Print E-mail
It was illegal and he knew it. He did not care. He lived for the Hunt. Carefully he guided his tight little ship, "The Requiem," into the roaring, stormy, midnight Antarctic Straights, oblivious to the fiercely pounding waves. Tonight, he was meeting Destiny. For here, in this empty sea, he was going to find his most prized victim of all, the Blue Narwhal whale!

Metreon PDF Print E-mail
Mother Metreon, you give us Life. It is you who saved us out of the great Destruction of the Lectrons. Although our world was defeated by them, you preserved us from it, and took us away from that place of death. You preserve us still, as you look for a new home for us all. We praise you and thank you for your great power and wisdom, and for your many kindnesses, in blessing us and in giving us life. You, Mother Met, are Life itself!”

The Stone Cat PDF Print E-mail

I couldn't resist. My wife's big gray cat always sat in the sun room, looking out wistfully at the birds in our yard, only a few feet away. His eyes followed them greedily. His tail took a life of its own as it twitched back and forth. The poor animal was in the throes of anticipation. Her cat really didn't like me, as I knew, for he was her cat alone, and I never touched him. But this was our little time together. So each morning as the sun came up he and I enjoyed ourselves in our various ways, me with my coffee and him with his hoped for mouthful of luscious little bird.

Ringship PDF Print E-mail
Long overdue. We should have discovered it decades ago, perhaps even a century ago, since we had been in space that long. We had put things out to the Lagrange points before, you know. Lagrange. Those imaginary but dusty Trojan points in the moon's orbit that allow economical and stable satellite placement. But we discovered the ring ship by accident. One of our communication sats sort of banged into it. We found the alien ship when we went to retrieve our hardware.

The ring ship, (what else could anyone call it?), was there at the fifth point. Close up, it is a great hulk, and as black as space, It is nearly 3,500 meters across - a perfect ring, with about a three hundred meter square cross section. It is made mostly of iron with odd trace elements, - and it we later found it to be completely empty, and just sort of sitting at that Lagrange point, without spin or any other movement.

Many things are still the same, Suzan, on this warm December day, 2049. I like it out here by the lake. All the walnut trees are so colorful, and they smell so good! OK. Begin. . . . As far as computers today are concerned, they are absolutely everywhere, but you will rarely ever see one! Let me explain.
