MOUNTING THE NIGHT MARCHESPain is such a clarifyer of things. Oh, not the white hot torch, but the dull, blunt ache, that comes from the continual plodding of one foot in front of the other, in mounting the night marches. Only people with this kind of pain, perhaps, can benefit from such clarity. There is a quality of such life, that is beneficial. The Apostle Paul understood it, for it focused his mind upon the most incomparable and joyous Subject of all time and eternity, as as such, gave meaning to the pain of it all. And I benefit from such clarity as well. Let us look again at that Life, which was not our own, and alien to us, but which now is so intermingled with ours so as to be forevermore inseparable. His name is Jesus, the Centerpiece of Humanity. The Bright and Morning Star, King of Kings and Lord of Lords. The man who wears all crowns and enjoys all good titles and names, so well, and well deserved. This man who does all things well, and who has done everything and been everywhere. The Locus of all time, space and eternity. The Lion of the Tribe of Judah. The Great Physician. The Good Shepherd. The man of sorrows. Wonderful. Councellor. Mighty God. Eternal Father. Prince of Peace. Savior. Friend. The Way, the Truth, and the Life. The Light of the world. The One who loves me and gave himself for me. I think of his promises. There are so many. "The day when you see me, you will ask me no questions." "Let not your heart be troubled. You believe in God. Believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions. If it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you, that where I am, you may be also. And if I go, I will return for you, that where I am, you may be also." "I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No man comes to the Father except through me." "I am the Resurrection and the Life. He who has died and believes in me shall live again. He who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?" "And look, I am with you always, even until the end of the world." Oh, is he not the perfect companion, on these dreary marches, in these weary hours? Paul said something else. "That I may know him in the power of his Resurrection, and in the pain of his Suffering." For his pain is my own, and my pain is his. I know I am not alone in the midst of all of this. I think of the glory to come. "But we know that when he appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is." No more night. No more pain. No more crying again. And praises to the Great I AM. for we shall live in the Light of the Risen Lamb. Over there is a mansion prepared for me. And I will live with my Savior eternally. You see, mounting these night marches has a purpose. I am going some where. Therefore I do not care how long these hours are, or where I walk in them, for I have a glorious goal, and I will do my duty here. Oh, not that I may be worthy, for I could never be. I am saved by faith in him, and not by any works I might do. But he counts me as faithful even in these night marches where I am helpless to do anything else. So I am content. Put your trust in him alone. You could seek his face every day and night for the rest of your life, and you would never reach the end of this ever new Subject. He has no end, and your discovery of his Names and Titles, and all the Stories about him will never be exhausted, for your King owns the unsearchable riches and is the True Treasure of all time and space and Eternity. "Come to me, all you who are weary and heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light." Have you considered that in the day you see him with your own eyes, you will love him, and love him above everything else? Learn to love him now, while it will do your soul and your life good. Love, Roger |
